Lazy Sunday

This morning I started reading John Taylor Gatto’s Dumbing Us Down: The Hidden Curriculum of Compulsory Schooling. An introduction into why

“it’s just impossible for education and schooling ever to be the same thing.”

The group met up at (insert lame gringo jokes here) Starbucks in the morning to coordinate laundry and a morning meeting. The sole reason we chose Starbucks as our meeting location is that all other places in downtown Arequipa, especially on Sunday, are not open in the morning. The other coffee shop that is popular with the group opens at 2pm on Sunday, 2pm!!!

Benji and I dropped off laundry at a laundromat up the street and laughed when we heard a techno remix of Dirty Dancing’s hit theme song: Time of My Life.

Jalen taught us a card game called “Chocolate” and ironic as it is, chocolate is the one delicious commodity that we haven’t really found here in Peru. Seeing as chocolate was our staple non-meal food in Chile and Argentina, we are on the prowl.

A beautiful cloud banked sunset capped the evening and concluded our group roof check-in.
